Biography

Andrés is a researcher and the head of the Data Mining Department in CENATAV. He received a BSc in Computer Science from the Havana University (www.uh.cu) in 2004. He holds the Master degree in Mathematics from the same university in 2007. He completed his PhD Degree in Computational Sciences at INAOE (www.inaoep.mx) in January 2010.

The early scientific results of Andrés were achieved in approximation theory, proposing two new methods for solving a family of dynamical systems, which were presented in two international conferences and published in the Inverse Problems journal. Afterward, he proposes an algorithm for weather visualization, which was presented in two Cuban conventions.

His latter contributions are focused on Data Mining and Biometrics. In this way, he proposed efficient algorithms and data structures for extracting useful knowledge from large structured databases. These algorithms were successfully applied in image and document classification tasks. Moreover, in Biometrics, he also developed a novel method for indexing and retrieving in fingerprint datasets; this contribution is included in Cuban real applications. He advised one PhD graduated student, two Master ones and five BSc ones, and he is advising two PhD students in Data Mining related topics. He has published more than 50 articles, including 22 papers in journals indexed in prestigious International Databases, 13 conference papers in highly ranked conferences, and 9 technical reports.

Currently, he is the President of Cuban Association for Pattern Recognition, young researcher associated of the Cuban Academy of Sciences, and member of the Scientific Council of CENATAV. Moreover, he has been referee at several conferences and journals.
